Everyone has a story to tell. As a junior doctor, I have a couple. This blog is about my day to day experiences, patient interactions, interesting cases and honest narratives of what it’s like to be a doctor in the public sector in South Africa.

“Klein Dokter” meaning “Little Doctor”, is a something a nurse called me during my internship. It is true to this day, and I think it will remain true. In medicine, you can never know everything and there will always be someone who has more experience than you. I am sure I will always feel like a Little Doctor.

The stories I have gathered as a South African doctor in the public sector are funny, light-hearted, sad, difficult, enlightening, entertaining and a whole lot in between. I hope you enjoy them… and don’t always take my sense-of-humour too seriously!
